Windows 11 Pro is clean-looking, more secure, and offers productivity enhancements—but before you get all excited about an upgrade, the day's question: "Will my PC run it?"
1. Why Compatibility Matters
Unlike previous installations of Windows, Microsoft made Windows 11 have stricter system requirements. This will provide better performance and security but also ensures that there are some older computers that will not qualify.
2. Windows 11 Pro Minimum System Requirements
Here is what your PC should have at least:
Component and Requirement
Processor (CPU) | 1 GHz or higher with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or SoC (System on a Chip) |
RAM | 4 GB or more |
Storage | 64 GB or more |
System Firmware | UEFI Secure Boot enabled |
TPM | Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 |
Graphics Card | DirectX 12 with WDDM 2.0 driver. |
Display | 9" or bigger, HD (720p) resolution |
Internet | Internet connectivity & Microsoft account needed for registration |
3. How to Automatically Check Compatibility
Microsoft also offers a free PC Health Check Tool:
Download it from Microsoft's official website.
Execute the tool and press "Check now".
It will immediately let you know whether your PC is compatible with the Windows 11 Pro requirements.
4. Manual Quick Check
Even without using the tool, you can verify:
TPM 2.0: Press Windows key + R, type tpm.msc → Observe version on right-hand side.
Restart → Boot to BIOS/UEFI → Check Secure Boot settings.
CPU compatibility: Verify your CPU model in Microsoft's processor compatibility list.
5. What If Your PC Isn't Compatible?
Enable TPM & Secure Boot in BIOS if disabled.
Hardware upgrade such as RAM, storage, or processor.
For older machines, you can install Windows 11 via unofficial sources—but it won't receive security updates.
